Randy Smith, M.D.
Dr. Randy Smith was born in Houston, Texas. After high school, he moved to Sherman, Texas to attend Austin College, an institution he chose specifically for its reputation in pre-medical studies. He fast-tracked his undergraduate studies, and after 3 years, he was accepted to medical school. Prior to moving back to Houston to attend the University of Texas Medical School, he married his classmate since third grade, Elaine, and they had their first son during his clinical rotations. After experiencing the pregnancy and birth of his own child, he knew Obstetrics and Gynecology was his calling.
After medical school, he stayed in Houston to complete his four-year residency program at The University of Texas Affiliated Hospitals, training in well-respected institutions like Hermann Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Breckenridge Hospital in Austin. Elaine and Randy’s second son was born during those residency years. Upon completion of his residency, Elaine and Randy wanted to move their family from the Houston area – although leaving Texas was never a consideration. Their search process led them to set up practice in Bryan-College Station, a great community due to its size, location, and spirit. They have been proud members of the community since 1986.
Dr. Smith is board certified by The American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of The Texas Medical Association, and a member of The Brazos County Medical Society. He is also an assistant professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine.
As an active member of the medical community, he has served on the Board of Trustees at College Station Medical Center, and has been Chief of Staff and Department Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Additionally, Dr. Smith has served on the Boards of the American Cancer Society and Compass Bank.
Dr. Smith advocates for the preservation of private practice and the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship; and he helped envision, steer, and develop The Physician’s Centre – a high-quality hospital facility on University Drive in College Station.
He is an avid runner and runs every morning, though he’ll be the first to admit he doesn’t enjoy it - “There’s never been a morning that I’ve woken up excited about running, but there’s never been a day I that haven’t been glad I did it”. He likes to read about current events, politics, and economics; and he enjoys traveling when the opportunity arises. He also enjoys spending time on his computer - iChatting with his family, producing movies, and researching.
Above all, Dr. Smith loves his chosen profession and meeting the health care needs of women in the Brazos Valley. Whether you are new to the area or a long time resident, he welcomes you to the practice and looks forward to providing you with exceptional health care.
